Situated in the heart of a valley and surrounded by mountains, there is no short of outdoor activities to try while visiting Medellín. From the parks high in the mountains, the mountain bike tracks through the forest or a quiet boat ride around the lake, Medellín plays host to outdoor and adventure activities to keep the adrenaline junkies as well as the nature enthusiasts happy.
Jump on the Metro Cable and head into the hills. From the top, you’ll be able to see the entire city of Medellín and this is how you get to Parque Arvi. Right at the top of the mountains which surround this lively city is more than 70km square metres of national park. Take a day trip and enjoy a quiet mosey through the tropical forests or spend the night and camp under the stars. Activities available include: visiting the archaeological site, bike tours, walking tours, hiking and zip-line.
A great day out for families with small children, the Parque Explora is an interactive centre where kids, and adults alike, can learn about science, astronomy and biology in a way that is so much fun that the kids won’t even know they’re learning.
The history of Medellín’s botanical gardens spans more than a century when the area used to be a bath house called the Baths of Eden. The bathhouse later went into decline and then began a new chapter for the area. The Botanical Garden of Medellín is the oldest botanical gardens in Colombia and is an institution for studying, protection and promotion of Colombian flora.
