There are three things that you’ll probably notice if you take a seat under one of those friendly yellow parasols during Medellin’s Eternal Spring. The first is the affability and helpfulness of the Floridian owner, Chris; who seemingly unfailingly manages to charm all his clientele. Now a Medellin local, he’s only too happy to share his knowledge – and maps – of his city. The second is the pitch-perfect comfort-food factor of his breakfasts (proper bacon, we’ll have you understand) and the lip-smackingness of his lunchtime sandwiches. The third is the unmistakable presence of Vegemite, for those Aussies who get what we’re talking about here. Catering to the backpacking crowd, as well as curious locals, the gloriously named Flip Flop Sandwich Shop (just listen to that assonance) always presents an opportunity for good Stateside food (and no, that is not a contradiction in terms) and great chats.
